I spent February 2026 trying to make OpenClaw work. The install was easy. Yay. Then it broke. I patched it. An update broke the patch. I patched that too, because I am a hopeful little tech raccoon with Wi-Fi.
I stayed longer than I wanted because the community was big, and I kept thinking the skills feature would turn into the self-learning thing I wanted. My friend kept poking me about Hermes Agent, especially for that part.
Then a more technical friend looked under OpenClaw’s hood and said the base looked fragile and insecure. That landed. The break, fix, break loop wasn’t random weather. It was the floor wobbling.
In April I moved to Hermes Agent. Faster. Steadier. Built with Python, which my beginner-developer brain appreciates. Updates kept coming, and instead of setting the kitchen on fire, they improved the thing.
After almost a month, I noticed the part I cared about: it learns.
The base matters more than agent-tool talk tends to admit. If the floor wobbles, every shiny feature on top wobbles too. Self-learning on a brittle base is a haunted house with a keyboard. On a solid base, it starts feeling like a teammate.
I’m running 3 Hermes agents on daily tasks now. Next is 5, then 20, then I’ll pretend I had a plan. Watching agents take work off my plate without nightly repair rituals feels like the automation people kept promising.
