Summary
AI is moving past one-word-at-a-time guessing toward scoring whole answers, longer memory, and live tweaks. Impressive, not bowing yet.
The story
*AI-ish patterns I’d cut:*
– Dramatic bookends: “Something is shifting,” “the singularity is beginning.”
– Same paragraph formula: tech name, praise, warning.
– Jargon stack with little plain-English payoff.
– Cute lines doing too much: “wet clay,” “smells funny,” “bigger notebook.”
– Hedging: “roughly,” “points this direction,” “feels closer.”
– Big claims without enough “so what?”
🟢 Before the Singularity, AI Is Getting Less Word-by-Word
AI is moving past the old “next word, please” trick. For years, models guessed the next token. Useful? Yep. Also great at giving shaky answers with huge confidence. Yay.
The newer question is better: can the system check a whole line of thinking?
Energy-based reasoning tries to score the whole answer path. Eve Bodnia’s work at Logical Intelligence points there. The win is error-finding. Instead of “oops, mystery nonsense,” researchers can ask where the thinking went sideways.
Boltzmann-GPT splits what the system believes from what it says. I like this. When belief and speech get mashed together, errors get harder to fix. Separate parts give researchers more control without rebuilding the whole dork machine.
LLaDA 2.1 and Mercury 2 build chunks of text at once, then revise while running. That matches human writing more than the one-word-at-a-time thing. Mess first, cleanup later. My entire personality has entered the chat.
Mamba-2 aims for longer memory without melting the hardware. Useful. Still, memory isn’t wisdom. A system can store more and still output fancy nonsense.
Google’s HOPE changes its learning rules while running. Interesting. Also eyebrow-up territory. Adapting without a clear aim turns into drift, not evil robot stuff, more “why did the tone change and why is it so sure now?”
The future looks mixed: word prediction, whole-answer scoring, longer memory, and live adjustment. I’m impressed, not bowing. What do
